Education CS Julius Ogamba Unveils 2024 CBC and Training Assessment Results

In a significant announcement made at the KICC in Nairobi, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba revealed the assessment results for the 2024 Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) on Tuesday. The assessment, conducted from October 24 to November 22, 2024, spanned across 314 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers.

At Level Three, a total of 202 candidates participated in various courses, with 120 males (59%) and 82 females (41%) assessed. This level included 18 qualifications encompassing 968 units of competency.

At Level Four, the assessment included 9,090 candidates, with 5,153 males (57%) and 3,936 females (43%). This level featured 47 qualifications and accounted for 49,391 units of competency.

Moving to Level Five, 28,878 candidates were evaluated, with a near-even split of 14,155 males (49%) and 14,712 females (51%). The Craft certificate at this level consisted of 74 qualifications, totaling 150,603 units of competency.

At Level Six, 27,636 candidates were assessed, comprising 14,442 males (52%) and 13,187 females (48%). This level offered a Diploma certificate with 100 qualifications and 130,797 units of competency.

In total, 65,808 candidates were assessed across 239 qualifications, covering an impressive 331,759 units of competency, marking a substantial 196% increase compared to the November/December 2023 assessment.

During the event, Ogamba also introduced a dual training policy aimed at enhancing the educational experience for TVET students by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical skills, ensuring they remain competitive on a global scale.

He encouraged trainees to leverage government initiatives such as the Hustler Fund and the Youth Enterprise Development Fund to foster their entrepreneurial ventures. Ogamba highlighted the importance of equipping the youth with skills in emerging fields such as cybersecurity, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and automation.

This comprehensive assessment and the introduction of new policies reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality and relevance of vocational training in Kenya.
