Donations that left FKF with egg on the face

Football Kenya Federation (FKF), although quiet on its failure to give Gor Mahia their prize money after winning this year’s league, has had their heads hidden in shame.

FKF made it known well in advance that they’d not give any prize money to whoever would later win the domestic Premier League title. That, however, should not absolve them from the blame. A club cannot play for the whole season only to go empty handed. Any reason that the federation gave as what necessitated their failure to reimburse Gor is neither here nor there.

However, to the surprise of everyone, many well-wishers stepped forward to give their donations to K’ogalo, for clinching this year’s gong. Among those who gave their donations is former Prime Minister Raila Odinga 1.5m, Information and Communication Technology Cabinet Secretary, Eliud Owalo 3m, a businessman from Homabay (who gave 1m), Sportpesa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hon. Donald Karauri 3.6m, among others.

In total, Gor Mahia went home with over Sh 9m, something that is way much above whatever FKF would have given them.

If FKF and it’s chairman Nick Mwendwa thought that it was a punishment they were meting on Gor Mahia by denying them money, then it worked completely opposite to what was their intention, thus leaving them with egg all over their faces.
