Deputy President Kindiki Reaffirms Loyalty to President Ruto Amid Criticism

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has publicly reaffirmed his allegiance to President William Ruto, dismissing calls from critics who encourage him to oppose the President’s policies. Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from Tharaka Nithi County in Nairobi, Kindiki emphasized that a government official should not engage in undermining the administration they represent.

“Those suggesting that I should challenge the President are mistaken. They might be looking for someone else, but not me!” Kindiki stated firmly.

His comments come in the wake of rising discontent regarding certain government policies, particularly unpopular tax hikes that have led to widespread protests across the country. Critics, including some within the government, have accused Ruto of running a “one-man show,” with ministers merely serving as figureheads.

In a contrasting sentiment, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua previously expressed frustration over the lack of open dialogue within the cabinet, labeling the administration as a “praise-and-worship choir.” He stated, “I was the only one who could stand up to him and say, ‘Hey boss, this can’t work,’” expressing concerns over Ruto’s alleged intolerance towards dissenting opinions.

Gachagua’s remarks highlight a growing divide within the administration, as he criticized Ruto’s approach to governance as dictatorial, particularly in response to pushback against certain policies.

Despite the internal dissent, Kindiki’s statements reflect a commitment to unity within the government. He reiterated that loyalty to the President is essential for the stability and effectiveness of the administration, aiming to quell any further speculation regarding possible rifts within the leadership.

As the government navigates through these challenges, the focus remains on addressing public concerns while maintaining a cohesive front among its leaders. The ongoing debates over policy direction and governance style continue to resonate among citizens, underscoring the need for dialogue and collaboration within the ruling coalition.
