The country is in mourning mode as former Education Cabinet Secretary, under President Uhuru Kenyatta, Prof George Magoha has died.

Professor Magoha died today after it is said that he collapsed several times. The demise of Kenya’s education stalwart comes at a time when his brother, Prof Richard Alex Nyabera Magoha, had also died, on United States, Texas – and his burial was slated for this coming Saturday, in Gem Constituency, Siaya County. The mourning family will now organize on which body to be laid to rest first.

Professor George Magoha served as the last Cabinet Secretary for Education under President Uhuru Kenyatta. Although he always invoked the name of God in most of press briefings that he held, most of the time Mr Magoha would lose his temper, especially when he would address parents, and rub parents the wrong side.

Professor George Magoha will be remembered as the Cabinet Secretary who oversaw the transition of Kenya’s education curriculum from 8-4-4 system, to the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). During his tenure at the helm of Education Ministry, the country went through a roughshod when the deadly Corona Virus struck the globe. It required a great deal of precision, professionalism, ruthlessness, bravity and a lot of resources to navigate through the torrent. Professor George Magoha cobbled that together, and made sure that the country stayed afloat throughout that trying moment.
