President William Ruto on Tuesday announced his long awaited cabinet that Kenyans had been waiting for ever since he was sworn into office.
The president who made the announcement at statehouse expressed hopes that the new team will help him implement his Kenya Kwanza manifestos both in the short and long term.
However, what stood out were the biggest losers in Ruto’s cabinet. Some of them include former Machakos governor Dr. Kivutha Kibwana, former Turkana governor Josephat Nanok, blogger Dennis Itumbi, Johnson Muthama, David Ndii, Cate Waruguru, Cleophas Malala, Hassan Omar amongst others.
To highlight just a few, former Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Mr. Hassan Omar dumped Raila Odinga’s side a long time ago and joined Ruto during the famous handshake period. Having shifted camps, the vibrant leader put up a spirited campaign for the president at the coastal region and definitely everyone expected that he would be first amongst the equal to be considered for a CS as opposed to just a PS.
Another leader whom everyone expected to make it to the cabinet was former Machakos senator Johnson Muthama having shifted his loyalty to Ruto years back. Muthama even led many UDA activities around Ukambani as the pioneer when the party was just launched. How the president dropped him for Alfred Mutua is still a matter beyond our understanding.
The third leader that people expected to make it to the cabinet was former Laikipia woman rep Cate waruguru. Known for her sharp tongue, waruguru supported Ruto with all her heart and she was one of the biggest critics of Raila Odinga and president Uhuru Kenyatta after the handshake. She was also on many occasions pursued to decamp to the government.
