
British American Tobacco Kenya (BAT Kenya) announced the planned departure of Managing Director Crispin Achola and Finance Director Philemon Kipkemoi as part of an executive transition.
Sidney Wafula will step into the role of Managing Director, while Catherine Chepkong’a will become the new Finance Director. Achola’s tenure will conclude on June 15, 2026, after over five years of leadership since he joined on January 1, 2021. The company praised his successful mandate and noted his support during the transition to maintain operational continuity.
BAT recognized Achola’s strong guidance through market challenges and regulatory changes, highlighting his 30 years of cross-market experience. Kipkemoi will exit his role on March 31, 2026, after 19 years with the BAT Group, contributing to various finance positions across East and Southern Africa.
The Board of Directors expressed deep gratitude to both executives for their leadership and professionalism, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
Wafula will officially take over as Managing Director on June 16, 2026. Previously serving as Finance Director for BAT Kenya, he has held senior roles within the group since 2006, including Head of Finance for BAT Egypt. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.
Chepkong’a will assume her position as Finance Director on April 1, 2026. Since joining the BAT Group in 2012, she has held various finance leadership roles, including Head of Finance for Uganda and Finance Controller for East Africa and Southern Markets. Most recently, she served as Finance Controller at Strathmore University Business School. Chepkong’a is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
