Alarm as Pharmacy and Poisons Board recalls ‘Sure’ Lubricated Condoms

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has raised a critical alert regarding a batch of substandard ‘Sure’ lubricated condoms, urging immediate action to safeguard public health.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Dr. Fred Siyoi, the head of the PPB, announced that the affected batch, labeled Batch No. 2405055, was manufactured by Indus Medicare Private Limited. The recall comes after the condoms failed to meet essential safety standards, particularly in the “freedom from holes (conductivity)” test, which is vital for ensuring their effectiveness in providing protection.

“Given these findings, the Board advises all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, and healthcare professionals, as well as the general public, to immediately quarantine the product. It is crucial to STOP the further distribution, sale, issuance, or use of the affected batch,” Dr. Siyoi stated. He added that the products should be returned to the nearest healthcare facility or respective suppliers.

The PPB is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public and encourages anyone who suspects they have encountered substandard medicines or experienced adverse drug reactions to report these incidents to the nearest healthcare facility or directly to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

As concerns mount over product safety, the PPB’s swift action highlights the importance of maintaining high standards in healthcare products to protect consumers from potential health risks.
