Siaya Governor James Orengo has addressed the recent attack on his vehicle, which was set ablaze in Awendo, Migori County, amidst escalating political tensions in the Nyanza region.
On Saturday, August 29, 2026, Orengo reported that his car was targeted during his political engagements in Migori. He revealed through his social media platforms that the assailants also fired live rounds at his vehicle.
“They vowed we’d never return to Migori, but they underestimated our resolve,” Orengo stated, expressing gratitude to the residents of Migori for their unwavering support while condemning those responsible for the attack.
“To those who cowardly fired live bullets into my car and set it ablaze in Awendo to conceal your wrongdoing: your acts of desperation only highlight your fear,” he remarked.
Orengo reaffirmed his commitment to continue his political endeavors, asserting, “You believed you could erase me, but I remain several steps ahead. A movement cannot be extinguished, and I will not be intimidated.”
He concluded his message with the empowering slogan “Unbwogable.”
As tensions escalate in Nyanza, Orengo has actively engaged in political initiatives under the Linda Mwananchi movement, collaborating with fellow opposition leaders, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a violent disruption during a Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay County on August 16, 2026, which resulted in fatalities, numerous injuries, and significant property damage.
Orengo and Babu Owino returned to Homa Bay on Friday, August 28, 2026, to attend the funeral of KDF officer Steven Onyango in Oyugis, amid the heightened political unrest stemming from the previous clashes.
The two leaders have consistently accused their political adversaries of instigating the violence witnessed during the Homa Bay rally. They subsequently visited the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters, demanding thorough investigations into the incidents.
The violence in Homa Bay has also prompted Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma to call for the arrest and prosecution of Orengo, Babu Owino, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, alleging their involvement in the unrest. The accused leaders have firmly denied these allegations.
Orengo remains steadfast, asserting that neither attacks nor political pressure will deter his movement. “You cannot extinguish a movement, and I will not be intimidated,” he proclaimed.
