A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday morning at a popular lounge along Kamiti Road in Nairobi’s Kasarani area, where a 22-year-old man, Joseph Gachuhi Kaburu, lost his life following a violent confrontation. Reports indicate that a bouncer allegedly assaulted Kaburu during a dispute that arose after the deceased entered the bar, raising suspicions.
Authorities have detained the bouncer as they initiate a thorough investigation into this unfortunate event. The establishment’s manager alerted the police after witnessing the altercation, which escalated quickly. Upon arrival, officers found Kaburu unresponsive in the parking area. Investigators have confirmed that the bouncer engaged in a physical confrontation with Kaburu.
Regrettably, the crime scene was disturbed prior to the investigators’ arrival, as the area had been washed down. As the investigation into the murder continues, police have taken the bouncer into custody at the local police station. Meanwhile, Kaburu’s body has been transferred to the Nairobi City Funeral Home, awaiting a postmortem examination.
This incident highlights a concerning trend of violence in social venues, where patrons have faced serious harm or even fatal outcomes. In another related case, a National Police Reservist (NPR) officer shot and killed a 47-year-old man, Julius Kariunga, in Mutuati, Meru County, on August 15, 2026. The officer allegedly used a G3 rifle during the incident, leading to severe injuries that ultimately claimed Kariunga’s life.
Following the shooting, the officer reported to Ndoleli Police Station and relinquished the firearm, which has since been secured by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as evidence. Kariunga’s body was transferred to the Nyambene General Hospital mortuary for preservation until a postmortem can be conducted. The motive behind this shooting remains unclear, and investigations are actively ongoing.
In a separate incident, local residents discovered the body of an unidentified woman, believed to be around 60 years old, floating in the Tana River near Segerea Market in Tharaka North, Tharaka Nithi County. Police retrieved the body after receiving reports from the community. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had deep lacerations on her forehead, suggesting foul play.
Investigators processed the scene and documented their findings, while the body has been moved to Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and are working diligently to establish her identity.
