
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has shared that he maintains a collection of over 15 phones in his office, emphasizing that these devices are essential for managing the thousands of calls and messages he receives each day from Kenyans seeking various forms of assistance.
During a recent interview, Sonko proudly showcased his impressive array of phones, which were neatly organized on his desk, leading the interviewer to compare the scene to a bustling call center.
Sonko confirmed that all these devices are fully operational and crucial for facilitating communication with the public.
He explained that the sheer volume of daily calls and messages makes it impractical to depend on just one phone. “I receive thousands of calls and messages every day from individuals with diverse problems and needs,” he stated.
While most of the phones serve to connect him with the public, Sonko also mentioned that he reserves one number strictly for his close family. “I have a special number just for family,” he noted.
According to Sonko, the remaining lines are dedicated to engaging with Kenyans from various regions who reach out for assistance or personal matters. He described the number of daily calls as “countless,” highlighting that communication goes beyond voice calls to encompass a significant volume of text messages.
This latest insight adds to Sonko’s reputation for a passion for premium gadgets and luxury technology, which has consistently garnered public interest over the years.
Earlier this year, he made headlines by acquiring Samsung’s exclusive Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone, placing him among a select few worldwide to own this high-end device. Sonko revealed that he possesses unit number 119 out of only 500 manufactured globally.
