Authorities are actively investigating a serious incident involving a suspected stock theft case. Earlier today, a mob of approximately 150 individuals forcefully stormed the Lagbogol Police Station in Hadado Subcounty, Wajir County, successfully liberating a 58-year-old suspect who had been detained for alleged stock theft.
The crowd, armed with clubs and makeshift weapons, overwhelmed police officers stationed at the report office and cells. Despite officers firing warning shots into the air to disperse the mob, the group’s determination remained unshaken.
The attackers managed to break the padlocks securing both the report office grille door and the steel door of the police cells, ultimately freeing the suspect. Following this brazen act, the mob fled with the suspect to an undisclosed location.
Fortunately, police reported no injuries during this tumultuous confrontation. In response, authorities have initiated a manhunt for the escaped suspect and are conducting thorough investigations to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack on the police station.
In a separate incident, two police officers sustained injuries while attempting to arrest a suspect linked to an assault case at Hagadera Refugee Camp in Fafi Subcounty, Garissa County. This altercation occurred on Friday afternoon in Block J11 of the camp.
The officers, who are part of Hagadera Police Station, faced resistance from a group of around 100 youths, some armed with crude weapons, as they sought to effect the arrest related to an assault reported on July 29. When the situation escalated, the officers fired warning shots to disperse the crowd and called for reinforcements.
A response team from Hagadera Police Station quickly arrived, successfully dispersing the crowd and rescuing the trapped officers after firing additional warning shots. Although the two officers were injured by stones allegedly thrown by the youths, authorities confirmed that no fatalities occurred, and the situation was eventually brought under control.
Currently, the area remains calm as investigations into both incidents continue, with authorities committed to apprehending those responsible for the attacks on law enforcement.
