Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has praised the significant improvements in the security situation in Turkana County and its neighboring areas over the past two years, following the launch of Operation Maliza Uhalifu.
In a statement released on his X page on Sunday, December 15, 2024, Prof. Kindiki commended the dedication of frontline multi-agency security forces for their successful efforts in dismantling livestock rustling and banditry, which have contributed to increased stability in the North Rift Valley Region. He emphasized that this progress is vital for fostering economic transformation and development in the area.
The Deputy President acknowledged the crucial role played by political, religious, and community leaders as change agents in promoting a culture of peace. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the security and stability of Northern Rift Valley Counties and other regions across Kenya. To prevent the resurgence of banditry and armed criminal activities, the government has implemented multistakeholder peace-building and sustainability programs.
Furthermore, Kindiki highlighted the positive trajectory of the Kenyan economy, which is recovering from the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. He noted improvements in the exchange rate, a decrease in the cost of essential goods, lower interest rates, and stabilized inflation as encouraging signs for the nation’s economic health. He urged citizens to remain hopeful and support government initiatives aimed at enhancing household incomes and creating job opportunities both locally and abroad.
The Deputy President attended an Interdenominational Sunday Worship and Thanksgiving Service at the Moi Gardens in Lodwar, where he was joined by several notable figures, including Beatrice Askul Moe (Cabinet Secretary for East African Community and Regional Development), Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, and various Members of Parliament representing the Turkana region.
The event underscored the collaborative efforts of local leaders in promoting peace and development in Turkana County as the government continues to prioritize the region’s security and economic growth.
