Gor Mahia Beat Garde Republicaine to Reach CECAFA Kagame Cup Semifinals

Gor Mahia clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Garde Republicaine of Djibouti in their final Group A match of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup at Kigali Pele Stadium on Thursday night. This victory not only secured their spot in the semifinals but also placed them at the top of the group based on goal difference.

Striker Paul Okoth emerged as the hero for K’Ogalo, scoring a crucial goal in the 4th minute, setting the tone for a match that the Kenyan champions defended with unwavering resolve.

With this victory, Gor Mahia finished with six points, tying with both Vipers SC of Uganda and APR FC of Rwanda. However, K’Ogalo’s superior goal difference crowned them as group winners.

Gor Mahia began their campaign with an impressive 5-0 win against APR, followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat to Vipers, which had left their qualification hopes precariously balanced.

Now, with their recent triumph, K’Ogalo advances to the semifinals, where they will compete against either Rayon Sport of Rwanda or Singida Big Stars of Tanzania. Both teams have displayed formidable performances in Group C, with Rayon Sport and Al Hilal SC also tied on six points heading into their final group match.

Coach Charles Akonnor had inspired his players to showcase their character and determination before this pivotal match, and his team rose to the occasion, demonstrating their commitment when it mattered most.
