Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has initiated a membership recruitment campaign for The Mwananchi Party, inviting Kenyans to register through the national political parties’ USSD platform.
In a post on his official X account on Monday, September 21, 2026, Owino provided clear instructions for Kenyans to join the party using the *509# service operated by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
“Dial *509# to become a member of THE MWANANCHI PARTY. Follow these simple steps,” Owino encouraged. The post featured a graphic outlining the registration process, with the party code 050 designated for The Mwananchi Party.
To join The Mwananchi Party, Kenyans should dial *509# on their mobile phones and enter their first name as it appears on their national identity card.
Next, they need to provide their ID number and create a four-digit PIN before confirming their details.
The subsequent steps include selecting the option to join a political party, followed by choosing their county, constituency, and ward.
Applicants will then enter party code 050 for The Mwananchi Party before finalizing their registration details.
This process takes place entirely through the mobile phone dial pad and does not require internet access.
The *509# service, managed by the ORPP, allows Kenyans to check their current political party membership, join a party, or resign from one.
The Registrar has made this platform accessible to the public through mobile networks, guiding users through the prompts to complete their registration.
As the recruitment drive unfolds, Owino positions The Mwananchi Party as his political vehicle for the 2027 General Election.
During an event in Central Nyakach, Kisumu County, on September 18, 2026, the MP confirmed that this party will play a crucial role in his political strategy.
Babu Owino has also associated the party with the broader Linda Mwananchi political formation, which includes Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other prominent leaders.
He has endorsed Sifuna as the preferred presidential candidate for this coalition and has discussed potential alliances with various political parties.
