Oburu Oginga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), encourages Siaya Governor James Orengo to concentrate on solving the county’s development issues rather than engaging in political disputes. He emphasizes that residents are facing poor services and delayed salaries.
During a speech in Kisumu on June 26, 2026, Oburu urged the governor to prioritize improvements in roads, water supply, healthcare, and the welfare of county workers, who have frequently gone on strike due to unpaid wages.
He pointed out that the ongoing strikes by healthcare workers and other county employees highlight the urgent need for action from the county administration.
Oburu also called for stronger collaboration between the county and national government, noting that the Constitution supports effective intergovernmental relationships to drive development.
“Focus on working for our people. By fostering good relationships with the national government, we can enhance development,” he said.
He urged the governor to utilize his connections with the national government to secure more development projects for Siaya while ensuring that county resources are managed wisely for the benefit of residents.
“What you secure from the national government, bring to us. Use county resources wisely so our community can thrive,” he stated.
In response to Governor Orengo’s comments about his experiences in Kenya’s pro-democracy movement, Oburu remarked, “Instead of claiming I haven’t suffered, consider how many tear gases I’ve faced in my political journey.”
He shared that his lengthy political career has exposed him to many challenges, but he prefers to focus on issues rather than personal attacks.
“I don’t want to reveal anything I know about you, as I’m not one to attack individuals. My focus is on the issues that impact our community,” he concluded.
