Miguna Miguna Backs ODM Move to Remove Edwin Sifuna

In a rare move, lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has backed the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) decision to remove Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as secretary general, stating that this action is legally, constitutionally, and morally justified.

In a post on X, Miguna emphasized that a party’s secretary general must genuinely support the party they represent.

“ODM is right to remove Edwin Sifuna as secretary general,” he asserted.

He stressed that personal opinions about ODM or its leadership shouldn’t sway the decision, insisting that party officials must uphold the party’s values.

“You can’t be the secretary general of a party you don’t believe in. If you hold that position, you must support your party. Period!” he declared.

Miguna urged Sifuna and his allies, dubbed the “Linda Tumbo Group,” to either leave ODM or establish a party that reflects their beliefs.

“Sifuna and his Linda Tumbo Group should have the honesty and courage to leave ODM and join or form a party they truly believe in,” he stated.

He argued that political leaders shouldn’t cling to positions in parties whose policies they oppose.

“You can’t have it both ways,” he added.

Miguna called for “political hygiene” in Kenya, urging parties and leaders to prioritize ideological consistency and accountability.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions within ODM regarding Sifuna’s role and his recent criticisms of the party’s decisions and alliances.
