Another Fire in A Nakuru School As Two Dormitories Are Gutted Down

A fire at St. Joseph Seminary Boys’ School in Nakuru County damaged two dormitories but thankfully caused no injuries or fatalities.

On May 31, 2026, the Kenya Red Cross shared on X that a multi-agency team quickly responded to the fire, containing it before it spread to other buildings. Their statement highlighted the collaboration of the Timsales Company Fire Brigade, Nakuru County’s disaster response team, and Kenya Red Cross first responders in managing the situation.

The fire destroyed students’ accommodation and personal belongings in the affected dormitories, which housed 86 students. Fortunately, all students and staff were reported safe.

The Kenya Red Cross commended the teamwork of the responding agencies, which helped prevent further damage and ensured everyone’s safety.

This incident comes amid a troubling trend of school fires. Just days earlier, a fire at Utumishi Girls’ Academy tragically resulted in the deaths of 16 students, reigniting concerns about school safety. Additionally, a fire at Gacharage Secondary School was swiftly managed, with all students safely evacuated and accounted for.

In light of these recent events, there’s a growing call for education authorities and school administrators to enhance safety measures and improve emergency response protocols to prevent future tragedies.
