David Ndii Defends Hassan Omar On Profiling Utterances

Economist David Ndii has expressed strong support for UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar, affirming that he shouldn’t apologize for addressing historical land injustices in Kenya’s Coast and Central regions, despite the backlash from Mt. Kenya leaders.

On his official X account on May 27, 2026, Ndii encouraged Omar, saying, “You don’t owe anyone an apology for speaking the truth.”

In response to Omar’s controversial comments in Mombasa, he issued a conditional apology, clarifying that his statements aimed to highlight long-standing injustices faced by indigenous Coastal populations and were not intended to sow division.

However, UDA Members of Parliament from the Mt. Kenya region, led by Kiambaa MP John Njuguna Wanjiku, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, and Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, have ramped up demands for Omar’s resignation, labeling his remarks as “dangerous” and “divisive” toward the Kikuyu community.

During a press conference on May 27, 2026, they threatened to petition party leadership and reconsider their membership in UDA if Omar does not step down.

The leaders rejected Omar’s apology and clarification, stating that his comments have already stoked ethnic tensions. “An apology cannot erase or excuse calculated ethnic profiling,” Kagiri stated.

Kagiri emphasized that inflammatory remarks targeting the Kikuyu community are unacceptable. She affirmed that every Kenyan has the constitutional right to live, work, and own property anywhere in the country, and they will not tolerate any form of ethnic profiling.
