Political analyst Herman Manyora believes the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has found a valuable asset in Nyandarua Senator John Methu as its new secretary general.
During his daily political analysis on May 27, 2026, Manyora praised Methu’s recent appointment, noting he embodies the qualities a party needs: sharpness, toughness, and fearlessness. He emphasized that a political party aiming for growth requires a strong and vocal leader in this role.
“DCP truly benefits from having Methu as secretary general; he’s a dynamic young leader,” Manyora stated.
He supported his view by referencing the Kenya African National Union’s early success with Tom Mboya as secretary general and the esteemed figures from the Orange Democratic Movement who have held the position.
Methu’s appointment comes just days after DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua named him interim secretary general following a thorough National Executive Council meeting. Gachagua confirmed that Methu will serve in this acting capacity until the decision is officially ratified and will soon be submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties.
“From today, John Methu will be the spokesperson for DCP, and we will confirm his name with the registrar shortly,” Gachagua announced.
Despite his new role, Senator Methu has chosen to remain with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He dismissed speculation about resigning, asserting that such claims are politically motivated and not based on historical precedent. He pointed out that many leaders in Kenya have successfully held positions in multiple parties simultaneously.
