Siaya Governor James Orengo has clarified his football allegiance after photos of him wearing an Arsenal jersey went viral.
In an interview with media personality Oga Obinna, Orengo addressed the public’s curiosity about the red-and-white attire, which featured the name “Baba” on the back.
He explained that, although he is primarily a Real Madrid supporter, his connection to Arsenal FC stems from his political and personal ties to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, affectionately known as “Baba.”
“I’m a Real Madrid fan. That’s my team,” Orengo stated. “However, due to my association with Baba, I support Arsenal in the Premier League.”
Raila was known for his passion for Arsenal FC, and his family and friends often emphasized his deep love for football. His brother, Oburu Odinga, noted that Raila was not only a devoted Arsenal fan but also a patron of Gor Mahia, showcasing his broader appreciation for the sport.
“Raila was a great lover of football. Arsenal was his team. He was also a patron of Gor Mahia Football Club,” Oburu remarked, highlighting Raila’s long-standing commitment to the game.
These sentiments resonate with Kenyan supporters who have passionately followed Arsenal through various challenges and triumphs. For them, the recent title win symbolizes a long-awaited reward for their dedication and perseverance.
