Speaker Moses Wetang’ula praised the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno as an exemplary leader whose commitment to public service and parliamentary conduct raised the standard for lawmakers.
Speaking to the press on March 3, 2026, Wetang’ula lamented the loss of the three-term legislator, calling it a significant blow to both Parliament and the nation.
“We have lost one of our finest members in conduct, debate, and leadership—someone who served three terms and chaired the housing committee,” Wetang’ula stated.
He highlighted Ng’eno’s pivotal role as chair of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning, and Public Works, noting the committee’s significant contributions to the Affordable Housing Act of 2024, which aims to increase access to decent and affordable housing across Kenya.
Ng’eno tragically died in a helicopter crash on February 28, alongside five others, while traveling in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County. Authorities from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department are investigating the incident.
Burial plans are underway, with a requiem mass scheduled for March 4 at Nairobi Baptist Church, allowing friends, colleagues, and constituents to pay their respects. A traditional night vigil will occur on March 5, in accordance with Kipsigis cultural customs.
The final burial service is set for March 6 at Emurua Dikirr Primary School, where thousands are expected to gather before the bodies are taken to their homes for individual interments later that day, as confirmed by family and community leaders.
Wetang’ula has established an ad hoc committee to assist Ng’eno’s family with funeral arrangements and encouraged Kenyans to remember him for his dedication to service, integrity, and leadership that left a lasting impact on the political landscape.
