Kitengela Club Shooting Victim Dies as IPOA Probes Police Involvement

In a tragic development, one of the two victims from the Kitengela shooting incident at a local club has succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Kevin Maseri passed away on Thursday morning after his condition worsened, prompting a transfer from Kajiado Referral Hospital to Metropolitan Hospital, according to police reports.

His family confirmed that Maseri suffered two gunshot wounds. He was shot from behind, with one bullet entering through his back and exiting through his stomach, resulting in significant damage that ruptured his kidney, pancreas, and small intestines. The autopsy also revealed that another bullet struck his scalp.

Daniel Kachori, the family’s lawyer, affirmed their commitment to pursuing justice in this case. He reported that the autopsy confirmed the cause of death as a result of gunshot wounds and subsequent bleeding. “The doctor indicated that the shooter fired at close range, causing severe damage to his intestines, liver, pancreas, and kidneys, leading to a critical infection,” Kachori stated.

The family has urged Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to intervene and ensure swift investigations and accountability for the police officers involved in the shooting.

Police have confirmed possession of three firearms believed to have been used during the incident on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Witnesses indicated that the victim was shot alongside his cousin amid a confrontation with police officers, including a senior DCI officer, at the Kitengela entertainment venue.

The body of Kevin Maseri was transferred to the Kitengela Sub-County Hospital funeral home around 1 PM. Previously, he had been treated at Kajiado Referral Hospital before being moved to Metropolitan Hospital, where he ultimately passed away.

His cousin, Joseph Musondu, who was also shot in the abdomen, is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at Kajiado Referral Hospital.

Kajiado Police Commander Alex Shikondi reported that three individuals of interest have surrendered their firearms to the police. Among these, two firearms belong to police officers, while one pistol belongs to a licensed civilian firearm holder.

“The evidence has been sent to our forensic lab for examination, which includes three rifles and several cartridges,” Shikondi noted. He added that the Internal Affairs Unit and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) are also conducting an independent investigation into the matter.

Shikondi assured the public that those responsible for the shooting will face accountability. “Once we receive results from the forensic lab and the postmortem report, we will determine who is responsible for the shooting,” he said, indicating that they will assess the possibility of murder charges in this incident.

So far, six suspects and four witnesses have provided statements to the police. Additionally, authorities have secured CCTV footage of the incident, which will play a crucial role in uncovering the truth.
