Ruto Hails 2025 KCSE Results as 270,000 Qualify for University

President William Ruto praised the 2025 KCSE results. He called them a key achievement for Kenya’s schools.

He got this update from Education CS Julius Ogamba. The meeting took place at Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County. It happened before the official release.

In an X post on January 9, 2026, Ruto said he felt pleased. Out of 993,000 students, half were girls. Some 270,000 earned a C+ or higher. That score lets them go straight to university.

This marks a 10 percent jump in university spots from past years. It shows better access to college. At the release event, CS Ogamba will share national trends, subject breakdowns, and main facts.

Ogamba told people the date fits the Kenya National Examinations Council’s January plan. He put aside worries about delays.

This group ends the 8-4-4 school system. That system closed on November 14, 2025. These kids finished one of the last sets under the old rules.

Kenya now shifts to the Competency-Based Curriculum. The scores point to changes that build skills and fair access to school. Exams ran well despite issues. A public holiday on October 17 marked the death of former PM Raila Odinga. Still, tests went on without big hitches.

KNEC sent out 10,765 center managers. They added 12,126 supervisors, 54,782 invigilators, 22,247 security staff, and 2,692 drivers. Extra help went to spots with multiple tests.

To stop leaks, they picked up second-session papers twice. They also built more storage in sub-counties.

Leaders kept exam honesty first. Just 418 students faced cheating claims. That’s fewer than before. Officials plan full checks and punishments under KNEC rules.

Ruto pointed to equal chances for boys and girls. Half the test-takers were girls. Day schools sent many top students to university.
