The Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga today sensationally “declared” Monday, March 20 a public holiday to facilitate his planned mass demonstrations.
Speaking during a rally in Siaya county, the opposition leader who has no mandate to declare public holiday purported to respond to a request from Narc kenya leader Martha Karua to declare the day a public holiday.
“In the name of Azimio one Kenya Alliance, We declare that Monday, March 20, will be a public holiday,” Raila announced at the end of the rally.
Raila also responded to church leaders who called upon him to cancel the mass action and wondered why the clerics kept mum when he announced the 14-day ultimatums. “A group of the clergy through the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) have appealed to me. I want to tell them in response that when Azimio came to the conclusion that we need to have a protest, it was after our ultimatum was ignored.” Said the ODM leader.
