Saboti member of parliament Caleb Hamisi has said that Dr Oburu Odinga is unconstitutionally holding the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s leadership role.
While speaking this morning in a TV talk show, the legislator said that contrary to party structures and hierarchy, Dr Oburu was not elected through a constitutional means to be able to shepard the party in the absence of his late brother Raila Odinga.
Hamisi questioned why there are three party leaders in Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Mombasa Governor Adbilswamar Sheriff Nasir, and Kisii governor Simba Arati — the three who were supposed to have been given the leadership roles in the party upon the untimely demise of Raila Amollo Odinga, but were conveniently bypassed so that Oburu would be handed the leadership role.
The Saboti legislator hinted that it will be very risky for an election winner to have his certificate signed by Dr Oburu as the party leader because the law doesn’t back his role as the ODM party leader.
“Someone can easily challenge your victory in the court of law if Dr Oburu will sign your victory certificate, because the party’s constitution doesn’t recognise him,” said the legislator.
Wrangles are steadily brewing in the Orange party in the Post-Raila era after every leader took different ways on what they claimed to have been said to them by Raila, especially about the cooperation between ODM and the Ruto-led government.
