Rev. Canon John Edward Limo, a well-known clergyman and a devoted admirer of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, passed away on Sunday in the United States while watching Raila’s burial ceremony live on television.
Family sources say Rev. Limo peacefully took his final breath just moments after Raila was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County — a moment many have described as both moving and symbolic, considering his lifelong loyalty to the ODM leader.
Earlier that morning, Rev. Limo had called Ramogi TV and Ramogi Radio to express his heartfelt condolences to Kenyans and the Luo nation over Raila’s passing. In his message, he spoke warmly of Raila as “a father to the nation,” his voice heavy with emotion as he praised the late leader’s unwavering fight for justice, democracy, and unity.
Rev. Limo was the brother-in-law of Suba North MP Hon. Millie Odhiambo, being married to her sister, Violet Odhiambo. Until his death, he served as the priest in charge of St. Timothy’s Church under the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, within the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.
Friends and parishioners remember him as a gentle and compassionate servant of God, a man who lived by the values of faith, service, and humanity — the same ideals he admired in Raila Odinga.
