After their disappointing league opener last weekend against Bidco United, Gor Mahia roared back to life with a convincing 2-0 win over Sofapaka in Dandora on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
The victory was not just about three points—it was a statement of intent. Assistant coach Kobi-Mensah Bismark said the difference lay in attitude in the team.
“We had no choice but to respond,” he admitted after the match. “Today, the boys showed hunger. They wanted the win more than anything, and that’s why it came.”
Gor’s opener against Bidco United ended in heartbreak after a late penalty condemned them to defeat. On Saturday, however, the team carried themselves differently—sharper, quicker, and hungrier.
Michael Kibwage, Gor Mahia’s new acquisition, had the following to say about their game against the “batoto ba Mungu“, “This Win Was for the Fans”
Defender Mike Kibwage, who stood firm at the back, was clear that the performance was not only about redemption but also about gratitude.
“Kwanza kabisa, game haijakuwa easy,” he said. “Opponents walikuwa wanataka win, sisi pia tulikuwa tunataka. But leo tulikuwa more prepared, more aggressive. Ju pia ya mafans—wanatupa time na resources. They deserve better. Leo ilikuwa payback time.”
Kibwage pointed out that the team’s mentality had shifted from the previous weekend. “Last time we started slow, too relaxed. Today we fought from the first whistle. That change in mentality and physicality gave us control.”
Adukwaw Announces Himself
The evening, however, belonged to Ebenezer Adukwaw. The new attacker introduced himself to the Kenyan top flight with a memorable brace.
He opened the scoring in the first half after Sofapaka failed to clear their lines, pouncing to put Gor ahead. He then doubled the lead shortly after the restart, a composed solo finish that sealed the points.
His goals were more than just statistics—they lifted the mood of the team and the fans, restoring belief after last weekend’s false start.
Trouble Brewing for Tusker
In another fixture, Tusker’s season continued to unravel. The Brewers slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Posta Rangers, with former Gor striker Eliud Lokuwam striking the blow. Erick Kapaito’s goal offered some hope, but it was not enough to stop the Mailmen from stretching their unbeaten run of the season.
Tusker, meanwhile, find themselves at the bottom of the table with back-to-back losses, leaving coach Charles Okere under early intense pressure.
Stalemate in Migori
The day’s final clash in Migori saw Mara Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz cancel each other out in a tightly fought goalless draw.
