Police officer admitted at Bondo hospital stabs fellow patients

A shocking incident unfolded at Bondo Sub-County Hospital in Siaya County when a police officer, who was admitted at the facility, allegedly attacked and stabbed two fellow patients in the male ward.

The officer, attached to Aram Police Station in Rarieda Sub-County, had been admitted to the hospital just a day before the attack.

According to hospital management, the incident occurred around midnight when screams from the male ward alerted nurses and the clinical officer on duty. Upon rushing to the scene, the medical team found that the officer had already stabbed a 14-year-old boy in the neck and a 20-year-old patient in the chest. The officer was reportedly heading toward a third patient when the staff intervened.

The medical team raised an alarm, prompting additional staff and security guards to rush to the scene. Together, they managed to subdue the officer, who was still holding a knife at the time of his arrest.

Siaya County Police Commander, Serah Koki, confirmed that the officer, who had been admitted due to illness, was handed over to his colleagues after the incident. She stated that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the matter to determine the appropriate course of action.

Meanwhile, the two victims are receiving treatment at the same facility. The 20-year-old patient, who sustained a chest injury, has been taken for an X-ray examination, while the 14-year-old boy is undergoing further treatment for his neck wound.

The incident has raised concerns about safety in healthcare facilities, with many calling for increased security measures to protect both patients and staff. Investigations into the motive behind the attack are ongoing.
