500 soldiers return to the US after deployment in Kenya

Five hundred soldiers from Connecticut returned to their families Monday night after a long deployment at the horn of Africa.

The National Guard’s 102nd infantry Battalion was stationed in Kenya as part “Operation Enduring Freedom.” The troops worked with soldiers from other states to help protect key infrastructure and train local forces.

It was the largest deployment for the 102nd since 2009. The Battalion is headquartered in New Haven with units stationed in Branford, Southington, Middletown and Danbury.
