
[NAIROBI] – Kenyan Police Arrest Suspect Attempting to Smuggle Cocaine to India, Intensify Anti-Drug Crackdown.
Nairobi, Kenya – Police on Friday arrested a suspect at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for allegedly attempting to smuggle 1.3 kilograms of cocaine to Goa, India.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Anti-Narcotics Unit detectives intercepted the suspect during a routine check as she prepared to board her flight.
“Her travel plans hit turbulence when sharp-sighted detectives flagged her down. A quick inspection of her luggage revealed two suspicious smaller bags concealed inside,” the DCI stated.
Upon further examination, officers discovered a white powdery substance meticulously packed and wrapped in yellow cello tape. A spot test confirmed the substance as cocaine.
The suspect is currently detained at the JKIA Police Station pending arraignment, while the seized drugs will serve as evidence in court.
The arrest coincides with Kenya’s heightened efforts to combat drug trafficking. In a separate operation on April 2, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada), alongside a multi-agency team, raided a hideout in Kiamuasi Location, Kisii County, uncovering a massive haul of _cannabis sativa_ (bhang).
Authorities Seven 50kg sacks, Four 90kg sacks and Two large carrier bags.The illicit stash was hidden in rental houses, and while three suspects were arrested, the prime suspect remains at large.
Nacada CEO Anthony Omerikwa reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks.
“We are not relenting in our pursuit of drug barons, their merchants, and distribution networks.This seizure proves our resolve—we will hunt down anyone profiting from the destruction of our youth and communities.”
Kenya continues to intensify its crackdown on narcotics, targeting both international smuggling rings and local drug syndicates.
