Kirinyaga woman representative Purity Wangui Ngirici has for the first time opposed deputy president William Samoei Ruto in public.
While weighing in on the Political Parties Amendment Bill, Purity Wangui Ngirici said that the whole country will feel united if we work through coalitions.
“The Political Parties Amendment Bill is good for the mountain. There is no greater unity than being able to work together formally through coalitions. Senate, do your job.” Wrote Purity Wangui Ngirici.
Her stand was a sharp contradiction from other allies of William Ruto who have opposed the Political amendment bill both inside and outside parliament.
A few weeks ago, the members of parliament were embroiled in supremacy war with those allied to handshake supporting the bill while those allied to William Ruto dismissed the same. However, the UDA members of parliament were overwhelmed in terms of numbers by the legislators allied to Uhuruto.
Consequently, the Handshake members of Parliament passed the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill, paving the way for the formation of a coalition party.
While speaking in Gichugu and Mwea constituencies recently, wangui Ngirici made it clear that she will vie for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial position but not under William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
According to her, she is confident of winning the Kirinyaga top seat in 2022 even as an independent candidate.
“Those who did not work and plan to hide behind political parties should know that it is not the party that will be elected. You are the one who we do not want because you are a thief and the people of Kirinyaga know that,” she stated.
“In 2022, I will not stand with any political party. I will seek to be elected as a governor, as an individual, and I’m confident that I will sail through,” the Woman Rep continued.
Purity Wangui has never been the same again since Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru joined the United democratic Alliance (UDA) side. Both the two who are interested in the top seat were eyeing the United Democratic Alliance ticket.
However, Purity Ngirici felt that she was being shortchanged with the entry of Waiguru, forcing her to ship out of the DP’s political vehicle.
Apart from claims of favoritism which is making her to consider leaving UDA, Ngirici also said that her colleagues in TangaTanga have been frustrating her.
Speaking to Standard, the Kirinyaga Women Rep recounted how her husband and her were insulted in a TangaTanga WhatsApp group.
“At one time, I was insulted in TangaTanga Whatsapp group where Ruto is. My husband too was dragged into it and called names but he was not in the group to defend himself. This pained me and I called Ruto to express my displeasure,” Ngirici said.
