Kisii County committee rejects pending bills worth Kshs 1.2B

A committee appointed by Kisii Governor Simba Arati has revealed that pending bills worth Kshs. 1.2 billion are fictitious and should not be honoured by the county.

According to the report by the Pending Bills Committee some of the contractors could not produce a single evidence of being contracted by the county other than an award letter which could be written anywhere.

In a bizarre revelation by the Chairman of the Committee, a Chief Officer of the county had written a letter to the county engineers directing that no site should be inspected unless money (bribe) is paid upfront.

The committee found out that out of the pending bills worth Kshs.1.9 billion they checked, only bills worth 235 millions can be paid out rightly without any queries. the committee however said that even those cleared bills still need small housekeeping to be done before the payments are released.
