Uganda Airlines Suspends Kinshasa Flights Over Ebola Concerns

Uganda Airlines has temporarily suspended flights to and from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), due to renewed Ebola concerns in the area.

In a statement released on the night of May 22, 2026, the airline announced that this decision takes effect immediately and will continue until further notice, as health authorities monitor the situation.

“Due to recent Ebola developments, we will cancel flights to and from Kinshasa starting May 23, 2026, until further notice,” the airline stated.

To ensure safety, the airline made this precautionary decision to protect passengers, crew, and the public from potential health risks related to the Ebola outbreak.

“We prioritize the health and safety of our passengers, crew, and the public with this precautionary measure,” the airline added.

Passengers affected by the cancellations should reach out to Uganda Airlines’ customer service for rebooking and travel assistance.

The airline apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the understanding and patience of travelers during this period.

“We regret any disruption this may cause and thank our valued customers for their cooperation. Affected passengers can contact our customer service for support,” the statement read.

The airline will continue to closely monitor the situation in collaboration with health and aviation authorities.

Updates on the resumption of flights will be shared once conditions are deemed safe.

This suspension aligns with heightened vigilance in the region following Ebola alerts, prompting health and aviation stakeholders to review travel protocols.

The United States Department of State has introduced new public health arrival restrictions and enhanced Ebola screening for travelers arriving from the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan.

In an updated health alert issued on May 22, 2026, U.S. authorities stated that American citizens and lawful permanent residents who have been in these countries within the last 21 days must enter designated airports for additional health screening.

These restrictions will roll out in phases at three major U.S. airports: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) for flights arriving after 11:59 PM on May 21, 2026; Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) for arrivals after 11:59 PM on May 22, 2026; and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston for flights arriving after 11:59 PM on May 26, 2026.
