UDA’s Francis Mureithi stoned in Jacaranda fracas

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for Embakasi East Constituency Francis Mureithi was on Sunday 19th June injured in fracas between supporters of Kenya Kwanza and those of Azimio La Umoja in Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi.

The fracas happened a few hours before Deputy President William Ruto arrived at the grounds for a scheduled rally after attending prayers at a Church in Roysambu. Chaos erupted after rival groups laid claim to the grounds which apparently had also been booked by area MP Babu Owino. Heavy police were deployed at the grounds from early morning in apparent anticipation of fracas between supporters of the two sides.

The Jacaranda rally was organized by Mureithi, who is Babu’s main opponent in the forthcoming elections having polled 42,501 votes against Babu Owino’s 46,817 votes in the 2017 elections. Photos seen by Nyanza Daily showed the UDA politician bleeding in the head and with a bloody trouser while his supporters stood next to him holding a blood-stained vest.
