Two Construction Workers Die in Separate Mombasa and Nairobi Accidents

A tragic incident occurred at a construction site in Tudor, Mombasa County, where a 39-year-old worker, Jotham Olouch, lost his life after being struck by a falling concrete block. The accident happened around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday as Jotham and over a dozen colleagues reported for duty.

The four-inch concrete block fell from the 11th floor, causing severe injuries. Despite immediate care at Tudor Health Care Clinic, Jotham sadly succumbed to his injuries. His body has been transferred to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

This incident has paused construction while police and county officials investigate the circumstances, focusing on workplace safety compliance.

In a separate case, police in Gigiri Sub-County, Nairobi, are looking into the tragic death of a 22-year-old construction worker, Nicholas Mbata, who reportedly suffocated inside an underground water tank at Citypark Estate. Three workers were cleaning the tank when they encountered breathing difficulties. Quick action from their colleagues saved two, but sadly, Nicholas was found unresponsive. Emergency responders confirmed his death, suspecting suffocation due to oxygen deprivation.

Authorities are actively investigating both incidents to ensure safety measures are followed at construction sites.
