Tusker FC will today welcome Gor Mahia, aka the Green Army or Sirkal, in a crucial title decider in Kenyan Premier League.
The battle will see the winners of the highly anticipated match have all the advantages to emerge as the Kenyan Premier League champions. Currently, Tusker are ahead of Gor Mahia with a single point separating them, but the Green Army enjoy a better goal difference.
The brewers are leading the table with 64 points after playing 30 games, while Gor Mahia are second with 63 points, having played the same number of games. Nzoia Sugar are in position third, also having played 30 games with, with 60 points.
Before today’s crucial title decider, there are only four games remaining for each team, and no team will want to lose even a single point. Mathematically, Nzoia Sugar are still in contention for the trophy, but all eyes will be on the two giants who have dorminated the Kenyan soccer scene in the past decade – with Sirkal enjoying the lion’s share – having won several back to back league titles.
Gor Mahia are seeking to come back to their winning ways in today’s crucial title decider after suffering a humiliating defeat in the hands of their arch-rivals AFC Leopards in last weekend’s Mashemeji derby, where Leopards beat Gor Mahia 2-1 in Nyayo stadium. Tusker FC, the defending champions, on the other hand, will be seeking to continue with their winning streek, and hoping to defend the title this season.
In other news, Football Kenya Federation (FKF), chairman Nick Mwendwa on Wednesday dropped a bombshell when he announced that there will be money for the winners of this season’s (KPL) Kenya Premier League, something that is going to be the first in Kenyan football history.
Mwendwa said that there is no sponsorer of the league currently, and that is why there would be no money for the winners. People are going to see whether the announcement by Nick Mwendwa will have any impact on a crucial title decider match as today’s.
