Three suspects implicated in the murder of psychiatrist Dr. Victoria Mutiso will remain in police custody until Thursday as the High Court deliberates on the next steps in the case.
Angela Mulwa, Chris Mulwa, and their mother, Rose Mbithe Mulwa, appeared at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) decision to bring murder charges against them.
The court has directed that the three be held at Kileleshwa Police Station until August 27, when they will return to court for further guidance.
On Monday, the DPP informed the court that a murder case had been officially registered at the Nairobi High Court involving Mbithe and her two children, advocates Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jalson Makori, stated that this decision came after the completion of preliminary investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The DPP also withdrew a previous request for additional time to detain Angela Mulwa while investigations continued.
Mbithe and Chris Mulwa had previously been in custody to assist investigators with the inquiry.
The prosecution emphasized that the decision to charge the three individuals was based on evidence collected during the investigation, which linked them to the alleged crime.
Dr. Mutiso, a respected psychiatrist and former Director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health, was tragically shot in Nairobi on July 29, 2026.
During Monday’s hearing, the court learned that preliminary investigations revealed Dr. Mutiso’s involvement in a land dispute that was pending before a court in Machakos.
Before her untimely death, Dr. Mutiso had reported an alarming incident involving two armed individuals on a motorcycle who allegedly confronted her while she was driving in Nairobi.
The three suspects will continue to remain at Kileleshwa Police Station as they await their return to court on Thursday for further instructions.
