
Thousands of young people drawn from various parts of the country gathered at the United Nations Complex in Gigiri for the 22nd Kenya Model United Nations Conference.
The conference under the theme the “The Future We Want” kicked off on 6th March and was opened by Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangura, the Director General of the United Nations offices, and His Excellency Abderrazzak Laasel.
Keynote speakers included Nominated MP Umulkheir Harun Mohamed, Global Peace Foundation Kenya CEO Mr. Daniel Juma Omondi, former CAS Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs Ms. Nadia Abdalla, the Deputy Director, United Nations Information Center Mr. Newton Kanhema.
According to Ms. Fidelis Murugu, Deputy Secretary General of the Kenya Model United Nation, the Conference is meant to celebrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with emphasis on Education, Climate Change and Gender Equality.
Mr. Daniel Juma from the Global Peace Foundation said Kenya must continue transforming our education to accommodate the hundreds of thousands condemned to failure by our education system. “We also need to induct graduates from our universities and colleges with skills to prepare them for the work place.” he said.
