Sudi Chides Gachagua Over ‘Mentorship’ Claims After Meeting with Jicho Pevu

The simmering political tension between Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has flared up once again — this time over Gachagua’s recent meeting with Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, popularly known as “Jicho Pevu”.

In a sharp rejoinder issued on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Sudi dismissed Gachagua’s suggestion that he was “mentoring” the Nyali legislator, accusing the former deputy president of hypocrisy and failed leadership.

“I wonder how Wamunyoro, who failed to advise himself, can now purport to mentor Nyali MP Muhammad Ali, alias Jicho Pesa,” Sudi wrote on his X page, alluding to Gachagua’s inability to withstand his own political downfall within the ruling administration.

Mentorship or Political Messaging?

Sudi’s remarks came just hours after Gachagua publicly praised Mohamed Ali following their weekend meeting.
The former DP shared warm sentiments about the Nyali MP, describing him as one of the young leaders he was grooming for future national leadership.

“It was great to have spent my Saturday with Moha, as we reminisced our days in the 12th Parliament. Moha is one of the young, talented leaders I am mentoring,” Gachagua posted.
“He has a great future as a leader for the Coast Region and Kenya. I am impressed by his great ideas on mobilising the Coast region to liberate our country.”

Gachagua also took time to commend Ali for his resilience after a long battle with a knee injury that had kept him from fully serving his constituents in Nyali.

“I thank God for healing my great friend Hon. Mohamed Ali, who has struggled with a serious knee injury for almost a year, and after multiple surgeries,” he added.

Sudi’s Counterattack and Money Allegations

But Sudi appeared unconvinced, turning the encounter into yet another opportunity to question Gachagua’s political credibility.
He alleged that Mohamed Ali’s fallout with the Kenya Kwanza administration was fueled by unmet financial expectations.

According to Sudi, the Nyali MP became disillusioned after failing to secure lucrative deals within government circles — a claim neither Gachagua nor Mohamed Ali has publicly addressed.

By press time, Mohamed Ali had not issued a response to the allegations, even as speculation continued over his political loyalties.

Political Undercurrents

Analysts say the exchange between Sudi and Gachagua is more than a war of words — it’s part of a larger struggle for political relevance within the ruling coalition and the emerging opposition bloc.
Gachagua has in recent weeks made overtures to several lawmakers perceived to be disenchanted with President William Ruto’s leadership, fueling speculation that he could be plotting a political comeback under a new formation.

Mohamed Ali’s recent engagements with opposition-leaning figures have further blurred the lines, raising questions about whether the once-loyal UDA legislator is reconsidering his political path.

While neither side has confirmed any formal defections, Gachagua’s warm words and Sudi’s biting response underscore just how fragile Kenya’s post-election alliances have become.
