The Government has proudly introduced a new uniform for General Duty officers of the Kenya Police Service, a decision made after valuable consultations with police officers and community members in 2023, as well as recommendations from the Presidential Taskforce on Police Reforms.
During the pass-out parade for recruits at the National Police Training College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, President William Ruto emphasized that the graduating officers will serve as the first to don this new uniform. This uniform will be gradually implemented for General Duty officers nationwide starting next week.
“The graduating officers will proudly wear the new uniform first, with a nationwide rollout for General Duty officers commencing next week,” Ruto stated.
The Head of State highlighted that these changes directly address the concerns raised by officers regarding the quality and sustainability of previous uniforms, as well as their impact on professional identity. He pointed out that while a uniform is important, true professionalism stems from character, discipline, training, and conduct.
“We recognize that a uniform alone does not establish professionalism. It is character, discipline, training, and conduct that truly define it. The Government has listened attentively, as the identity, comfort, morale, and dignity of our officers are of utmost importance,” he added.
