Kenyan rapper and activist Octopizzo urges the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to embrace its national character by actively involving young people in leadership and decision-making roles.
In a statement on his official X account, posted on January 18, 2026, he emphasized that ODM represents all Kenyans who align with its principles and values, rather than being defined by a single community.
“ODM is a national movement that belongs to every Kenyan who shares its principles and values. To maintain relevance and strength, the party must intentionally create opportunities for young people at the negotiating table,” Octopizzo asserted.
Youth representation is essential.
Octopizzo insists that the party requires fresh perspectives, energy, and representation that reflect the realities of contemporary Kenya and its future.
“We need fresh minds, energy, and representation that reflects the Kenya of today and tomorrow,” he stated.
Challenging traditional notions of leadership, Octopizzo argued that leadership should be determined by experience and vision, not merely age.
“Leadership is shaped by evolution, vision, and progressive thinking, not by age alone. Just as a father invites his son to the table to listen, learn, and contribute, our political landscape must allow both experience and youth to collaborate,” he explained.
Intergenerational collaboration is crucial.
He further asserted that the legacy the party aims to build cannot be carried solely by older generations or constructed exclusively by the youth.
Instead, he highlighted the necessity for respectful collaboration across generations to advance both the party and the country.
“The legacy we seek requires collaboration across generations. Only together can we propel the party and the country forward,” he concluded.
