Deputy President William Ruto will this morning unveil his promise to the Kenyan women at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
In what has been described as “Kenya Kwanza Women Charter – A declaration of Commitment to the Women of Kenya”, the UDA presidential flag bearer is expected to outline the various promises he has in store for the Kenyan women.
This comes in the backdrop of the surge in popularity of the Azimio La Umoja presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga after nominating NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua as his running mate.

Martha’s nomination has excited the women voting block who are eager to see one of their own rise to the Presidency after decades of isolation and it is this crucial women voting block that the Deputy President may want to appease in todays’ event.
Of all the four presidential candidates cleared by the IEBC, only Ruto picked a male running mate. The other three candidates have women running leaving the UDA flag bearer as the odd one out. Professor George Wajackoya picked Ms. Justina Wambui as running while Mr. David Mwaure Waihiga of Aganao Party settled on Ms. Ruth Mutua as his running mate.

Ruto’s critics have accused him of paying only lip service to women’s inclusion in governance. “This election will boil up to the issue of trust. Willam Ruto promised women the position of deputy president. Waiguru prepared, Susan Kihika prepared even Alice Wahome bought new clothes but Ruto appointed Rigathi Gachagua.” – said Jubilee party youth leader Solomon Kuria recently on TV 47.
