President William Ruto recently engaged with Kenyans residing in the United States during his visit to New York, coinciding with the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
This meeting marks the beginning of Ruto’s series of important discussions in New York, where he aims to promote Kenya’s investment and trade initiatives, while attracting both African and global capital.
At the UNGA, Ruto is set to emphasize Africa’s pivotal role in the digital and artificial intelligence economy, alongside advocating for investments in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, health, agriculture, and technology.
He will co-chair business roundtables organized by the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI), partnering with renowned industrialist Aliko Dangote.
Key topics of discussion will include the ambitious KSh2.2 trillion ($17 billion) East Africa Refinery project in Lamu, which is projected to process 700,000 barrels per day, creating over 60,000 jobs and enhancing regional energy security.
The groundbreaking for this significant refinery project is scheduled for September 30, 2026.
Ruto is joined by First Lady Rachel Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Mining CS Hassan Joho, Lands CS Alice Wahome, and other distinguished government officials.
