During a Sunday service at the Global Cathedral in Nairobi, President William Ruto expressed his support for a new Executive Order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which recognizes only two genders: male and female. Ruto emphasized that this decision aligns with Kenyan cultural values and religious beliefs.
“We thank God that this year, the first news from the U.S. confirms what the Bible teaches and what our traditions uphold,” Ruto stated. He highlighted the importance of this policy shift, asserting that it reinforces the notion that boys should remain boys and girls should remain girls.
Ruto also underscored the strong bilateral relationship between Kenya and the United States, expressing his commitment to further strengthen these ties. “There is a special bond of friendship between the United States and Kenya. The U.S. is a blessing to our nation, and we collaborate on numerous fronts,” he remarked.
In addition, Ruto recalled a request from President Trump last year for Kenya to assist with security diplomacy efforts in Haiti, highlighting the continued support from the U.S. administration for Kenya’s mission.
The executive order, signed by Trump on his first day back in office, aims to redefine gender at the federal level, potentially impacting policies related to transgender individuals and challenging what some term “woke” culture. It mandates that federal documentation, including passports and prison assignments, reflect a binary understanding of sex.
As this policy unfolds, it is expected to spark discussions on gender identity both in the U.S. and beyond. Ruto’s endorsement signals a reaffirmation of Kenya’s traditional values in the face of evolving global discussions on gender.
