President William Ruto announced plans to build 28 new stadiums, mirroring the Talanta Stadium’s capacity and standards, to enhance sports infrastructure nationwide.
During a visit to the Bomas International Convention Complex, Ruto emphasized the shift from Nairobi-centric sports facilities. “We’re expanding beyond Nairobi; even Lodwar will have a stadium,” he shared.
The Raila Odinga Talanta International Stadium, currently under construction at Jamhuri Grounds, will seat 60,000 and is set for completion by July 2026. This Sh49 billion project is among those slated to host matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ruto aims to ensure that development reaches every corner of Kenya, rejecting divisive politics. “We must unite and progress together,” he stated.
While addressing workers improving the Bomas of Kenya, one enthusiastically showed support for Ruto’s re-election in 2027, prompting laughter from the President, who playfully noted the worker’s profession as a painter.
As the government rolls out various infrastructure projects, including the Affordable Housing Programme, Ruto highlighted the job opportunities created for thousands of young people. He encouraged workers to stay dedicated, reinforcing that every Kenyan contributes to the nation’s development.
Having previously committed to expanding sports infrastructure as Deputy President, Ruto’s administration is now focused on delivering 39 sports facilities, with the construction of 28 new stadiums as a key part of this vision.
