
Ramba Boys High School in Asembo, Siaya County, is in mourning following the tragic deaths of two form four students who fell into a septic tank that collapsed around 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025. The students were reportedly having supper when the incident occurred, trapping four of their peers inside the structure.
Rescue efforts were swiftly initiated, with two students successfully extricated and taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the bodies of the two deceased students were later recovered by police and Red Cross officials.
The unfortunate incident took place shortly after the students returned from an AIDS awareness rally, leading to shock and grief among their classmates and families.
Authorities and school officials have yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the septic tank collapse. In the wake of the tragedy, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo expressed his condolences on social media, confirming the deaths and stating that investigations are underway to determine how such a disaster could occur.
“Another tragedy! I am deeply saddened to learn that two young boys at Ramba Boys High School have lost their lives after a septic tank collapsed. May their young souls find peace as we investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Amollo wrote.
In response to the tragedy, students at Ramba Boys have staged protests, voicing their concerns over the school administration’s lack of communication following the accident. Parents have also criticized the school for not providing timely information, amplifying the calls for accountability and transparency in the wake of this devastating event.
As the community mourns, the focus now shifts to the ongoing investigation to prevent such incidents in the future.
