COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has embraced fatherhood once again at the age of 75, welcoming a baby boy with his wife, journalist Mary Kilobi. In a recent interview with the Daily Nation, Kilobi, 40, shared insights about her pregnancy, which she intentionally kept private.
“This journey was deeply personal for us. We wanted to shield it from outside speculation and noise,” Kilobi explained, emphasizing her desire for privacy during this significant time.
Kilobi also clarified that her sabbatical in June was unrelated to her pregnancy. “I enjoyed stepping back from the public eye, and now I’m on maternity leave, but I plan to return soon,” she noted.
Expressing her joy, Kilobi shared that she had not undergone any medical procedures to conceive. After seven years of longing for a child, she feels immense gratitude for finally becoming a mother. The couple has named their son Atwoli Junior, honoring his father.
Mary Kilobi and Francis Atwoli began this journey together in 2005 when they first met during Atwoli’s visit to Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, where Kilobi was working. They reconnected in 2016 after Mary returned to Kenya, and their relationship flourished, leading to their marriage in August 2018 following traditional ceremonies.
Currently, Mary Kilobi serves as a news anchor and reporter for KTN at Standard Group Limited. She previously worked as a producer and editor with UBC and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Literature and Kiswahili from Makerere University. Additionally, she is an author, having published a Kiswahili teaching book, Jifunze Kiswahili, which is available in major bookstores in Uganda and Congo. Beyond her literary pursuits, she is also a motivational speaker.
This new chapter in their lives marks a joyous milestone for both Atwoli and Kilobi, as they embark on the journey of parenthood together.
