Raila Odinga Dies In India from Heart Attack

Former prime minister Raila Odinga has passed on. Raila, who was undergoing treatment in India, is said to have died after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk on Wednesday, October 15.

He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to reports from India, his daughter and relatives were with him.

Raila had arrived at Koothattukulam in Kerala’s Ernakulam district for Ayurvedic treatment, but was pronounced dead at around 9:52am (Indian time), according to a spokesperson for the hospital.

He reportedly collapsed during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic hospital where he had been receiving care.

Doctors at Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam confirmed that Odinga suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 9:52 a.m. His body is currently being preserved at the facility as formalities are handled.

Odinga had travelled to India with his daughter Rosemary Odinga, who was receiving Ayurvedic treatment at Sreedhareeyam Hospital, the same facility that had previously helped her regain partial eyesight.

Indian authorities have alerted the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to begin repatriation procedures as per protocol.

The former ODM leader had disappeared from the public limelight, with speculations that he had travelled to India to seek medical attention. His brother Oburu Odinga would later confirm that indeed the ODM leader was unwell and was undergoing treatment in India.

The death of Raila Odinga has shocked citizens, with tributes flowing from various leaders. Until his death, the ODM leader was working with president William Ruto in broadbased government after the popular handshake.
