“Disregard Mutunga’s incitement” Chief Justice tells judges

Chief Justice Martha Koome has crticitized told judges her predecessor Willy Mutunga’s call for judges to strike following the Executive’s disobedience of court orders and urged the judges to desregard him.

In a statement issued on Friday 29tb October, .Koome in a statement urged judges to focus on progressive reforms to reduce the case backlog.“I have, with tremendous respect, expressed my deepest disapproval personally to the retired Chief Justice and restate herewith to the people of Kenya that my foremost obligation is to defend the tenets of Judicial Authority espoused under Article 159 of the Constitution. Justice shall be done to all and without delay,” Koome said.

On his part the President of the Law Society of Kenya Mr. Nelson Havi has crticitized Koome for issuing the statement saying she should have ignored the sentiments by Mutunga.

“Chief Justice Martha Koome lacks emotional intelligence. She needed not respond to Retired Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga’s call for Judges to go on strike. It is common sense that Judges cannot go on strike”. Said Havi
