Gor Mahia Football Club has received a major financial boost ahead of the 2025/26 season after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga presented the team with Ksh10 million.
The donation, described by the club as monumental, is aimed at supporting administrative operations and strengthening the team as it prepares to compete both locally and in continental tournaments.
In a statement shared on the club’s official Facebook page on Friday, October 3, 2025, Gor Mahia hailed the gesture as a reflection of Raila’s unwavering commitment to the team.
“A landmark breakfast! An incredible visit to our Patron, Hon. Raila Odinga and his wife, Mama Ida Odinga’s home in Karen. The club management had a good time; in a demonstration of his unwavering commitment and truly generous gesture, our Patron presented the club with a monumental gift of Ksh10 million to support administrative functions. We are deeply grateful to our Patron and his family,” the statement read.
Raila’s Message to the Team
Raila Odinga, who serves as the club’s Patron, expressed his support for K’Ogalo, wishing them success in the new campaign.
“As the new football season kicks off, I had the pleasure of being briefed by Gor Mahia Football Club’s executive team, led by Chairman Ambrose Rachier, on the club’s campaign plans for the season that has just commensed. Wishing K’Ogalo all the very best as they fly the Green flag higher and strive to return as champions once again. Let’s go Gor Mahia!” he said.
His words came as both a motivational message and a show of confidence in the team’s ability to restore its domestic dominance and perform strongly in continental football.
Praise from the Football Fraternity
The donation quickly drew admiration from fans and leaders alike. Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris was among those who applauded Raila’s gesture, calling it a major boost for the local football scene.
“Rt. Honourable Raila Odinga has donated Ksh10 million to Gor Mahia football team for the 2025/26 season, a massive boost that pushes Kenyan football closer to the global stage. Maybe one day Gor Mahia will line up against Baba’s Premier League side, Arsenal,” Passaris posted on X.
Football enthusiasts have also praised the former Prime Minister for his consistent support of sports development and community empowerment through football.
Boost for Kenyan Football
The contribution comes at a crucial time as Kenyan clubs seek to raise their competitiveness in both the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) and continental tournaments such as the CAF Champions League.
Gor Mahia, Kenya’s most successful football club, enjoys a passionate fan base and a storied legacy spanning decades. The donation, club officials say, will go a long way in improving administrative efficiency, player welfare, and overall team preparedness.
The club remains optimistic that with strong management and the continued backing of its patron, it will reclaim its place at the top of Kenyan football and make a stronger showing on the African stage.
